When you think of Alaska, there are certain images that we conjure. Frozen pine trees, glaciers blanketing the shoreline with giant walls of white, huskies running through snow piled paths, the tips of their fur crystallized and glistening. But when it comes to the real Alaska, these iconic images are just the tip of the iceberg.
Bald eagles don’t just glide through the treetops; they swoop through the air with their eyes afire with life. Glaciers don’t meet the water; they reach out and embrace the waters, dramatically standing proud like a giant wall with different angles, each one ablaze with the sun’s shimmering touch. Around every bend, Alaska unleashes the kind of beauty that will render even the most talkative amongst us speechless and provide you with memories so vivid; they will remain with you for a lifetime.
Alaska has a very short season running from May to September. The best months to visit are June-August and of course these are the most popular months for bookings. Alaskan cruising should be on everyone’s bucket list and is best done when you are able to take part in the more active excursions such as glacier walking & dog sledding
Century Travel really are the experts when it comes to Alaska cruises and tours. Helen Granville, one of our sales consultants, spent 6 seasons working for Princess Cruises aboard their ships, she is able to provide a real insight in to what to expect both on land and sea. We truly believe that the best way to see Alaska is on a cruise tour. As representatives to all the major cruise lines, we do not often highlight one above the other, however this all changes when it comes to Alaska. Holland America Line have been cruising these waters longer than any other cruise line and have been voted number 1 in Alaska for 2019. During this time, they have also invested hugely in Alaska itself. They operate land tours using their own hotels and even their own trains. Most importantly they are unrivaled when it comes to the nature/historical and geographic experts they have on every trip. For all of these reasons, they are top of our list when it comes to recommending who to cruise with in Alaska.
Itineraries Offered
The cruise element tends to be no more than 7 nights. The itineraries are offered either as a round-trip cruise (known as Inside Passage cruises) that will start/finish in either Seattle or Vancouver. These will take in a couple of the major ports but do not travel as far north as Anchorage and therefore do not allow for an extension tour in Alaska itself. The ideal choice is a northbound cruise that will start in either Seattle or Vancouver and end in Seward, the gateway to Denali National park, sitting in the shadows of Mount McKinley, North America’s highest Mountain.
